Sometimes, we may also refer you to other specialist doctors and teams if your pet has a condition that can benefit from a second opinion or a doctor with a higher level of expertise in that specific issue. How can I get a referral for my pet?

If you’re new to our team, your primary veterinarian would forward your case to us, along with your pet’s medical history. Then, we will usually reach out to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience. On the other hand, if you are a client of ours, one of your vets here at Hartzel will connect you with one of the specialists we work with. Then, their team will reach out to you to schedule your appointment.

What exactly is a veterinary referral hospital?

There are teams we work with who are experts in specialized aspects of pet care. We can provide a full range of “general” medical care for our patients. Referral hospitals focus their time on “special” or “unique” cases that teams like ours do not have the resources to accommodate. CT scans, complex surgeries and advanced behaviour training are just some of the services offered by referral hospitals.
