Deworming

Protect your pet from deadly parasites by deworming them regularly.

They are small and they are definitely terrible. Worms can cause so much havoc in your pet’s health: weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, anemia, dull coat and more! The good news is with proper and regular deworming treatments, your pet will have ample protection from these pesky creatures. Call us at 905-685-7349 to learn more about how we can safeguard your pet’s health.

How does deworming work?

There are different types of deworming medication your vet may recommend based on your pet’s specific needs: tablet, liquid and topical. These medications work by killing worms that may already be inside your pet, as well as any worm eggs or larvae. Some formulations paralyse the worms while others disintegrate them. It’s normal for you to see the worms or worm parts in your pet’s stool.

How often should I deworm my pet?

Frequency will vary based on how old your pet is and their unique health and environmental situation. For example, puppies and kittens should be dewormed approximately once every 2 weeks until they are about 3-months-old. Then monthly until they are 6-months-old. After that pets should be dewormed every 3 months or once per season throughout their life.

How do I know if my pet has worms?

If your pet only has a small number of worms, or if the infection is at its early stage, there may be no symptoms at all. This is why regular deworming and checkups are so important. Signs to look out for are:

  • Pot belly
  • Fatigue
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Dull coat
  • Coughing
